GESKUS PICTURE DAY - OCTOBER 1
We will not be having class pictures taken this year. Students will ONLY have their individual picture taken to maintain social distancing. Our Alpine Elementary virtual students will be getting their picture taken at Alpine Elementary from 12-3pm in our gym. Parents are to park in our staff parking lot and walk around to the back of the building to our gym entrance. A sign will direct you where our gym is located. Virtual staff will be available to meet parents as they arrive.
ILLNESS-RELATED ABSENCES DURING PHASE 4
Please be sure to contact the office or our school nurse if your child is not feeling well so that we can be available to support you. We recognize that parents may be taking extra precaution by not sending their child to school if they exhibit various illness related symptoms. It is important that we record absence reasons to account for student attendance accurately and to follow up as needed.
SCREENING FOR FACE-TO-FACE STUDENTS
All students attending in person must be screened prior to school each day. Parents/Guardians will receive either a text message or email at 5:30am on each school day as a reminder to complete the very simple screener when your child awakes. The electronic screening tool can be completed until 8:30 a.m.
Unfortunately, we are unable to change the time of the screening period at this point; however, we are hopeful that we will be able to customize this in the near future. The tool is designed to quickly and accurately identify anybody who should not enter our buildings either because they are experiencing symptoms, or have been in contact with a known case of COVID-19. Please contact the school once the office opens if the screener instructs you to do so. It is imperative parents complete the screener for each of their students every school day prior to coming to school. The daily electronic screener does not need to be completed if your child is not coming to school that day. Thank you for your cooperation and support in completing this daily requirement.

Our first week implementing our new procedures for student drop off and pick up have gone well. Below are some important reminders for everyone:

Bus Transportation: Students will line up in various locations designated by grade level on the playground. Staff will be assisting students in finding the correct location.

Please remember that families who would like to take advantage of our free breakfast/lunch program, they may pick up food at our HS using the field house
entrance between 11-12. Please be sure to complete the survey recently distributed to those attending KHOLA.
Knight Striders (formerly known as Let Me Run) team is in the process of discussing options to hold a running season for 3rd-5th grade boys. Please stay tuned for more information to come later in September. If e are able to run a program it will be a shorter season.
ACCURATE CONTACT INFORMATION
Due to our desire to be overly cautious with students' health this year, we anticipate the possibility of requiring students to go home when they are not feeling well. Please be sure our school has updated contact information.
Our regular school day is from 8:35-3:02. The earliest drop-off time is 8:30.

In past years, we have had a fall school fundraiser starting in September. At this time, our PTO board has tabled the discussion pertaining to a fall school
fundraiser in light of our current reality. Please stay tuned for more information.
VISITORS & VOLUNTEERS
Due to the current Executive Order as well as the safety/health of our students, visitors and volunteers may not enter the school at this time. For health purposes, we want to reduce the number of people in and out of the school building each day.
SOCIAL/EMOTIONAL HEALTH SCREENER
As we continue and expand our efforts to address students' social and emotional needs, this fall the district will begin the use of a mental health/social/emotional screener. This activity is a strongly recommended component of the Governor's Return to School Roadmap. The collected information will help our building teams develop targeted social/emotional lessons as needed. Student-level responses will only be shared with staff and administrators who have an educational interest. The social/emotional health screener is compliant with HIPAA and FERPA, and will include instructions for students to speak to confidentiality and mandated reporting guidelines.
For health reasons, we will not be permitting birthday treats or other items to be distributed to students at this time. Teachers will do their best to recognize students on their special day.
LUNCH & RECESS
Students will eat in their classroom if having cold lunch and hot lunch will be taken in the cafeteria.
FREE & REDUCED MEAL BENEFITS
Families must reapply every year for Free and Reduced Meal Benefits. Meal benefits from last year will expire on October 6, 2020. Families impacted by the pandemic are
encouraged to apply as you may be eligible for benefits. Please fill out your application as soon as possible to ensure your students benefits are ready for the upcoming school year. Masks are required to be worn throughout the school day. Our teachers will be working to instruct outside when possible in designated areas and will be finding ways to give children mask breaks with social distancing in place.
